Before you engage in any paid work with an individual or company, always check:
- The legal registration of the organization
- Its financial health and reputation
- The identity of the recruiter and whether they truly belong to the company
If any of these cannot be verified, we recommend not proceeding and reporting the job post to us.
🎯 What kinds of scams exist
Online recruitment scams come in many forms.
Scammers may pretend to represent real companies, post misleading offers, or trick candidates into exploitative or criminal schemes disguised as legitimate jobs.
Common examples in Southeast Asia include:
- Fake or misleading job postings — roles claiming to be in sustainability or NGOs but linked to gambling, crypto, or sales operations.
- Exploitative offers — “companionship” or “sugar baby” type listings that cross professional boundaries.
- Fake deposits or payments — scammers send a “payment” and later ask you to refund the difference; the original transfer never happens.
- Identity theft — fake recruiters use logos or names of real companies to steal your information.
- Direct WhatsApp or social media offers — unverified contacts offering “quick jobs” with unrealistic pay.
